KDW Tournament

Are you fishing in the KDW Classic? If you’re looking for an awesome tournament with lots of prizes, check out the Palm Beach County KDW Classic. The KDW Classic starts on June 1st with a kick-off seminar presented by Penn Fishing Tackle. This year’s guest speakers will be George Mitchell, Greg Bogdan, and Butch Constable. They will be giving a free seminar at Riveria Beach Newcomb Hall. The seminar will start around 7:00pm. It will be an outstanding seminar dealing with Kingfish, Dolphin, and Wahoo. They will also discuss how to win in a KDW style tournament. Again, this is free to everyone who wants to come and listen. You do not have to be fishing in the tournament to attend this seminar. The actual tournament kicks off with a captain’s meeting on Friday night. The tournament is Saturday, June 4th. This is an awesome tournament with lots and lots of prizes and a killer raffle. April Fishing

Yesterday was a great day of fishing. There was a great south southeast wind which pushed our Dolphin north. Lots of dolphin were caught on the edge. Seas were two to three, two to four feet. And it sounds like fishing is going to be good for the next couple of days. I hope you get a chance to go offshore and catch some of these Dolphin. I talked with Mike Feldman yesterday and he caught some really nice dolphin and some Cobia. His dolphin were 20 pounds plus and his cobia were really nice. All of them caught in 110 feet between Juno and Jupiter Inlet. It sounds like today and the rest of the week is going to be the same. South southeast winds, 10 to 15 miles an hour. Look for good dolphin action along the drop-off. Thanks so much for tuning in and I hope that you check us more often.

Nice Pompano on a Doc's Goofy Jig

Has anyone seen the Pompano fishing as good as it has been this year??
If you want to catch pompano at the surf with a jig, try fishing with a 3/8 oz Doc’s Goofy Jig in Yellow or Pink. From the surf, you want to retrieve it slow with a little twitch….But if you are fishing in the River, try making it hop, like a shrimp jumping.

Winter Sailfish Bite

January 26, 2010 Sailfishing off of Jupiter Fl. this week has been off the hook. We have had 2 cold fronts back to back, and the temperature dipped into the low 30′s. Yesterday tournament anglers released more than 60 sailfish before noon. The bite is anywhere from Jupiter Inlet to Lake Worth Pier, 80′ to 150′. Live goggleeyes, blue runners, sardines or greenies will work great. Even the trollers were doing well on ballyhoo and bonito strips. December Fishing in Jupiter Florida

Wow what a great November, fishing wise. We have had back to back cold fronts and it has really moved the fish. Mackerel, Pompano, and Jacks have been all over the beaches, and the Dolphin have been good when the wind has been out of the north. Sailfish have shown up already and we can expect it to be a great December and January. If you are thinking about fishing one of the Sailfish Tournaments off the Palm Beach and Treasure Coast of Florida this year, you can go to www.fishingheadquarters.net and checkout our list of all the upcoming tournaments. I think this year the enteries will be down and the fishing will be up. This would be the time, to check all of your rods for broken guides and your reel drags, to make sure they are smooth. Make nessessary repairs and don’t forget to change you line. Most of the Sailfish tournaments here in Florida use 20 pound test, and they state 20 pound manufacture rated line. There are alot of good fishing lines on the market today, but you might want to give Hi-seas Quattro Camo a try. The guides in our area all use this line because it is tough and always test over 20 pound. This gives them an advantage when it comes to there customers who can sometimes be testy with there equipment.

Sailfishing off Jupiter Florida

Sailfishing off Jupiter usually starts in late November if the weather conditions are right. The main bite can be late December or early January, but definitely the month of January is the hottest time. I think we will get a good early bite this year because of the early cold fronts.
What do you think? Will this be the year the West Palm Beach Fishing Clubs Silver Sailfish Derby, breaks the 958 sails of 3 years ago in 2006 with 50 boats? If you need any info on sailfishing out of Jupiter, ask away.

Checkered Puffers are they safe to eat

Fishing off Jupiter Florida is a little slow this week, 10/8/2008 But the guys that are getting out are catching some nice Dolphin and Blackfin Tuna in 300 to 600′ of water. Around Jupiter Inlet, some Bluefish and Jacks are being caught, also the locals are catching there fill of Toadies (checkered puffers). Muzzle loading for Whitetails, do you think they are safe?

I am going muzzle loader hunting in Kansas this week. I want to know if you think the new inline muzzleloaders are safer than the old Thompson and Hawkens rifles? Everyone tells me they are, and they are more accurate. What do you think?

Hey I just got back from Kansas…saw some of the biggest bucks I have ever seen. Our guide said that when the horns are outside of the ears, they are 20 inches. Is that right?? does anyone know what the outside ear measurement is? I did see the biggest buck I have ever seen and had a shot at. Let me know what you think.

OFFSHORE
Dolphin fishing should be reeelll good tomorrow, look for weeds from 600′ out to 900′. There were lots of patches today off Juno Beach and Jupiter Inlet. Don’t forget to catch some of the fingermullet on the way out in the morning. Steve Burlington on “TOP SHELF” caught 15 fish, up to 35# and 2 tripletail up to 10#.
Bottom fishing for Muttons and Yellowtail should be great. Get an early start and let me know if you do as well as I thing you will. I will be at the shop all weekend, so call me if you need any help.
INSHORE
You guys that are fishing for Snook will be pleased to know that the mullet are pouring down the beach today. Also along the beach are plenty of Bluefish with some mackerel and pompano.

Fishing In September 2008

Through September bottom fishing is really good, lots of Yellowtail and some Mutton Snapper, along with good catches of Mangrove Snapper are on the shallow reefs. We have one of the largest nesting areas for Loggerhead turtles in the world, along Martin and Palm Beach County Beaches. They hatch in August and September and Mangrove Snappers come to the beach in the night and feed on the hatchlings. Jetties, rock piles, and piers along the beach become the staging areas during the daylight to house these Snappers.

A 7 foot medium action rod and a Penn 460 Slammer with 20# Power Pro or braided line makes a great outfit for catching your limit (5 per day) of Mangrove Snapper. They will bite just about any bait, live or dead, but small (2-4”) Sardines, Menhaden, Threadfin Herring or Greenies, Glass Minnows, live Shrimp, or pieces of Squid work well. 20# American Fluorocarbon leader 12-24” long with a Mustad 92611 #2 or #1 long shank hooks works best. Mangrove Snappers will bite when you try to remove the hook so this long shank hook helps you to not get bit.

From Sebastian to Miami, Snook fishing is always good during this time of year. Snook season is closed in the summer because they spawn in the inlets during the months of June, July, and August but catch and release fishing is great! In most cases it takes longer to catch the bait than it does to catch the Snook. A Calcutta 400 reel and a Fishing Headquarters Ultimate Snook Rod with 20# mono line is the perfect outfit for catching these prized game fish. Snook will eat just about any live bait but prefer Croakers, Pinfish, and Mullet in August and September.

When fishing from the inlets, piers, or bridges (for Snook), 50-60# Fluorocarbon leader 12-36” long with a live bait style hook is recommended. Snook have no teeth but sandpaper like jaws that can fray your leader during the fight. When hooked, Snook will almost always run toward the pilings of the bridge or pier and toward the jetty or rocks in the inlet. Be prepared for a great fight and Snook are very good to eat when caught in season!
